Dave Riedstra is a bassist and composer. He most often performs in the modern jazz idiom, drawing inspiration from Larry Grenadier, John Patitucci, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Sara Serpa. Riedstra also frequently performs in free improv and folk/bluegrass ensembles.
Riedstra's compositions build almost explicitly on the foundations laid by Xenakis and Ligeti, with references to Penderecki and Feldman. He is interested in creating an ensemble texture in which each instrument maintains an engaging individuality. Riedstra is also keenly interested in incidental music for theatre and film.
